Year Six Math Worksheet for Kids – Real Numbers

Year Six Mathematics Worksheets

Real numbers are numbers that can be used to describe a quantity that has a value on the number line. A number line is a line that goes on forever in both directions, with positive numbers on one side and negative numbers on the other. The number line helps us understand how real numbers work, and how they can be used to describe the world around us.

Real numbers include whole numbers, like 1, 2, 3, and so on. They also include fractions, decimals, and even numbers that can’t be written as a fraction or a decimal, like the square root of 2 or π.

In math, we use real numbers to describe things like distances, temperatures, and money. For example, if you’re trying to measure the length of a piece of string, you might write down a real number like 3.2 inches to describe how long it is.

Real numbers can also be used to describe changes in values over time. For example, if the temperature outside is 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and it drops 10 degrees over the next hour, we can write down the new temperature as 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

It’s important to understand the different types of real numbers, and how they work, because they are used in many different areas of math and science. From solving equations to calculating probabilities, real numbers are an essential part of the math curriculum for kids.

To help kids understand real numbers, it’s a good idea to start by introducing them to the number line. This will help them get a feel for how real numbers are used to describe values and changes in values over time. From there, you can move on to more advanced concepts, like decimals, fractions, and irrational numbers.

By learning about real numbers, kids will develop a solid foundation for their future studies in math and science, and be well-prepared for a wide range of careers. Whether they’re interested in engineering, finance, or another field, understanding real numbers will be a valuable skill that they can use throughout their lives.
