Year Five Math Worksheet for Kids – Thousandths and Ten Thousandths

Year Five Mathematics Worksheets

Math is an important subject that kids need to learn as they grow up. One of the important concepts they will come across is decimals and how to work with them. In this article, we will be discussing two important concepts in decimals – Thousandths and Ten Thousandths.

Thousandths are used to represent parts of a whole number. For example, if you want to represent a third of a whole number, you can write it as 0.333… repeating forever. Thousandths can also be used to represent amounts less than one, such as 0.5, which means half. To help understand thousandths better, it is important to know that there are 1000 thousandths in one whole number.

Ten Thousandths are similar to thousandths, but they represent even smaller parts of a whole number. To help understand ten thousandths better, it is important to know that there are 10,000 ten thousandths in one whole number.

Now that we know what Thousandths and Ten Thousandths are, let’s see how we can use them in real-life examples. Imagine you want to buy a pencil that costs $1.25. The “$1.25” is the amount of money you need to pay and the “1” represents the whole number of dollars you need to pay, while the “25” represents the number of cents you need to pay. To represent this amount in thousandths, we can write it as 1.25 x 1000 = 1250. Similarly, to represent this amount in ten thousandths, we can write it as 1.25 x 10,000 = 12,500.

In conclusion, Thousandths and Ten Thousandths are important concepts in decimals that kids need to understand. They help to represent parts of a whole number and are commonly used in real-life examples like prices and measurements. By understanding these concepts, kids will be well-equipped to handle more complex mathematical problems in the future.
