Year Five Math Worksheet for Kids – LCM: Least Common Multiple

Year Five Mathematics Worksheets

Math is an important subject that kids need to learn as they grow up. One of the important concepts they will come across is the LCM, or the Least Common Multiple. In this article, we will be discussing what LCM means and how it can be used in real-life examples.

The LCM, or the Least Common Multiple, is the smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers. In other words, it is the smallest number that can be divided by all of the given numbers without leaving a remainder. For example, the LCM of 4 and 6 is 12 because 12 is the smallest number that can be divided by both 4 and 6 without leaving a remainder.

Finding the LCM of two or more numbers can be done by listing the multiples of each number and finding the smallest multiple that is common to all of the numbers. For example, to find the LCM of 4 and 6, we can list the multiples of each number and find the smallest multiple that is common to both. The multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and so on. The multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and so on. As we can see, the smallest multiple that is common to both 4 and 6 is 12, which is the LCM.

Now that we know what LCM means and how it can be found, let’s see how it can be used in real-life examples. Imagine you want to find the length of a piece of cloth that will fit two tables of different lengths. To find the length of the cloth, you need to find the LCM of the lengths of the two tables. For example, if the length of one table is 6 feet and the length of the other table is 9 feet, you can find the LCM of 6 and 9, which is 18 feet. This means that a piece of cloth that is 18 feet long will fit both tables.

In conclusion, LCM, or the Least Common Multiple, is an important concept in math that kids need to understand. It helps to find the smallest number that is a multiple of two or more numbers and is commonly used in real-life examples like finding the length of a piece of cloth that will fit different sizes. By understanding this concept, kids will be well-equipped to handle more complex mathematical problems in the future.
